Description

Disha Eye Hospitals, a Private Limited Companionship of three doctor friends all from the NRS Medical College, was formed on 1st May 1997 with Dr. Debasish Bhattacharya as the major share holder and Dr. Tushar Kanti Hazra and Dr. Samar Kumar Basak having sweat equities. Disha initially started in Dr.Bhattacharya’s private premises.

The first new building of Disha was inaugurated on the 12th December 1998. It was a 20,000 sq.ft. two- storied building with three operation theatres. The companionship of these three doctor friends was an instant success. They themselves did not realise the magic they had created as within one year they were operating on more than 5,000 patients and seeing more than 50,000 patients!

Dr. Tushar Sinha (another friend from NRS Medical College) joined Disha and developed the Retina Department.

During this time, Disha became a 4 storied building with 5 operation theatres while more younger and extremely talented Ophthalmologists joined Disha.

Disha inaugurated the new OPD building in 2003, another 23,000 sq. ft. of Patient Care Area.

Disha was seeing more than 3.5 lac patients and operating on 25,000 patients in all sub-specialties of Ophthalmology with 25 Consultants.

In September 2006, Disha started its second hospital in Sheoraphuly, Hooghly.

Disha came up with it’s new Cataract & Refractive Surgi-Centre, a sprawling 40,000 sq. ft. infrastructure at Ghoshipara Palta (2 kms ahead of Barrackpore) which caters to patients who are looking forward to newer refractive solutions.

Disha Eye Hospitals started it’s 3rd hospital in the industrial city of Durgapur (250 km from Barrackpore) to attend to it’s patients who would travel this distance. This 25,000 full fledged eye hospital boomed into nodal point of Disha’s quality care at affordable prices. Under the able leadership of Dr.Partha Mandal and his wife Dr.Soma Mandal. Durgapur Disha now sees 15000 patients and operates more than 1200 every year.

The changing scenario: Eye care went on with its advertisement from an era of treating diseases and visual rehabilitation to an area of vision enhancement and disease prevention. The sick can travel but the apparently healthy need to be invited to closer proximities. So Disha planned to open Tertiary Eye Care Hospitals in every district in West Bengal over the coming years. With urbanisation, the doctors are more inclined to city life. So with this in mind Disha expanded with five city Day Care Centres (about 8000 sq. ft. facilities) from Disha at Sinthi, Teghoria (VIP Road) and Behala.

Disha Phaco Day Care Centres were started at Barasat and Gariahat. 2014 Disha opened it’s next big hospital (25000 sq.ft.) at Mourigram in the Howrah district under the leadership of Dr.Tushar Kanti Hazra.
